What is Figma?

Figma is a design platform that aims to bring together powerful design features you already love and a more efficient workflow. Some features include:
  • A modern pen tool: Draw in any direction with Vector Networks. No more merging or needing to connect to the path's original point.
  • Instant arc designs: Design clocks, watch screens, or pie charts with the Arc tool.
  • Be expressive with OpenType: Tap into advanced font features to fully express the brand.

Figma's Autom Layout tool helps users spend more time iterating and less time moving things around.
  • Less manual resizing: Buttons can resize with their text and lists can rearrange themselves when items are moved around.
  • Stretch to fill: Auto Layout components can now stretch left and right (or top and bottom) for easier responsive design.
  • Design speaks development: Auto Layout’s padding, direction, and spacing settings translate directly into code, simplifying developer handoffs.

Its plugins help to remove manual, repetitive work, bring in data, and power custom workflows.
  • Plugins for everything: Stock imagery, flow diagrams, color accessibility, charts, and icons.
  • Designed for ease: A user that can build a website can build a plugin.
  • Private plugins: Organization customers can create and distribute private plugins within their company.

Create prototypes that are like the real experience

Figma helps turn static design files into an interactive experience—no coding required.
  • Intuitive build: Simply connect UI elements and choose your interactions and animations.
  • Interactions: Define subtle interactions, like on click, while hovering, while pressing a button.
  • Mobile-viewing: Experience designs in real life using our Figma mobile app, available for iOS and Android.
  • Advanced transitions with Smart Animate: Automagically animate similar objects and create detailed transitions.
  • Dynamic overlays: Create multiple layers of interactive content overlays.
  • Animated GIFs: Use GIFs to represent motion designs, video elements, and subtle animations.
  • All-in-one platform: Toggle between a design file and live prototype. Design edits appear instantly in a prototype.
  • Shareable prototype: Share a link to your prototype. View it anywhere with Internet.
  • Embedded commenting: Comment in a prototype. They carry over into the design file—so nothing gets lost.
Figma is available online as a SaaS, and it can be downloaded for WIndows, or MacOS. Figma is also available via a mobile app for iOS and Android.

We use Figma for UI/UX designing and prototyping. Our business uses Figma as part of the product development cycle for new software. Our UX designers use the tool to create initial wireframes, finalized UX designs and prototypes. The designs are then used by our development teams to develop the frontend UI for our product. Verifiers also use the designs verification of the frontend development.
  • UX designs
  • Prototyping
  • Collaboration
  • The ability to create components so updates can be made once instead of multiple times
  • Requires time to learn how to use it
  • Can be difficult to correctly layer objects
Figma is great for UX designs and prototyping. The tool is really helpful for frontend developers and verifiers too.

Figma is not great for quick workflows or brainstorming activities. Miro is much better suited and easier to use for the common user for this type of task.

Professionally, I've used Figma to create graphics and infographics for both internal and external use within my company. I use it mostly for presentation purposes, but will use it occasionally for workshopping ideas and interactive worksheets for ideating.

Personally, I use Figma for app development and product design with a high focus on UX/UI.
  • web and app design
  • collaborative space for ideating with a large team
  • premade screen and paper size templates
  • Direct copy and paste from similar design apps
  • Steeper learning curve than other collaborative digital spaces
  • Adjusting placement of objects on frames can sometimes be clunky when done by hand
  • UI can be overwhelming at times
When it comes to web and app design I think Figma is a great starting point for designers and enthusiasts. While it can sometimes get complicated, most everything can be figured out with a quick tutorial, and the intricacies allow for more design features overall. It's easy to understand and I've always felt like it was the industry standard.

Our company uses Figma mostly to hand over interface design to developers, so that they can turn them into code. Sometimes, we also use it to document research. It's a single source of truth for us when it comes to design. We have multiple teams and departments that are reflected in teams and spaces.
  • Eases collaboration between designers and engineers
  • Interface design becomes a breeze via specialized options
  • New automation options are always coming and make life of a designer easier: variable, auto-layout, etc
  • Organizing teams and files within them
  • Improve pricing model, especially of FigJam for enterprise plans, different licensing is needed nowadays and it's silly
  • Comments - please do make sure when get moved always, the clustering in groups when you zoom out is such a pain when you have to move them
For experience work, there is nothing better than Figma nowadays. Can be also used for Print for quick previews of production work but another software is best suited for this once approvals are gathered.

I use the figjam whiteboard for brainstorming ideas, creating concepts, mapping out software features and roadmaps, planning content ideas. For designing UI screens, I use the regular Figma app to create quick mockups as well as high definition UI screens in both desktop and mobile sizes. Since both of these features are in a single app, it is easy for me to switch between planning a software feature, and designing the screens for that feature.
  • Sharing designs with others
  • Generous free tier
  • Good drag and drop support for a variety of file types in both the UI editor and Figjam
  • UI editor interface is starting to get complicated compared to early iterations
  • Component system has a steep learning curve and is easy to make mistakes
  • Figjam post it notes and other text and shape features often feel limiting since they can't be smoothly resized as compared to the UI editor
A solo developer or small team that wants to integrate development, feature planning and ui design in a single app can find a lot of value in using Figma, since the FigJam whiteboard and UI editor are in the same app. Business plans and software features can be mapped out on FigJam and then implemented in the UI editor, that way there is reduced context switching and teams can operate smoothly without having to toggle between multiple apps.

We primarily rely on Figma as our primary tool for translating business requirements into visual designs. Figma is offering real-time collaboration, robust version control, cross-platform compatibility, streamlined feedback and iteration processes, and efficient design-development handoff. And also Figma is able to encompass web, desktop mobile applications, and lite graphic design. It extends to prototyping, design system management, and remote collaboration, making it an ideal tool for creating, refining, and iterating digital products in a collaborative and efficient manner.
  • Build a Design design system with multiple brand color and themes.
  • Support many plugins to speed up design team workflow
  • Include community site and offer free asset
  • Not support typography variables as design tokens ( in variable feature )
  • Do not have integration with figjam if you would like to make design workflow and with figma design
  • Variable mode is limited for pro plan, only 4 modes max.
I highly recommend it to anyone who just started learning UI/UX Design using Figma. Figma is not just a design tool, but also for prototyping with a simple dynamic database. Figma also supports many plugins to boost your workflow even faster. Figma is great for collaboration with your internal team ( design team ) or with other divisions. if you are a big team, you can also monitor every designer's activities ( to access this feature only for organization plans) . Do you want to make a complex design system? Figma is a good tool for simple and complex design systems. Hassle-free when hand-off process with the dev team, everything in Figma.

Our designers use Figma to create UI assets. Figma is a great tool to design components and other resources in because you can implement design system tokens to quickly standardise branding and other elements. It is also very easy for our developers to understand what is needed and improves communication between the two teams.

We also use Figjam to host workshops with stakeholders and other team members.
  • Design tokens make standardisation very easy
  • The granularity of the design asset features (e.g. sizes and colours) makes it easy for our developers to engineer designs
  • Figjam makes it easy to host workshops online with multiple users and stakeholders
  • Tokens Studio for Figma is great, it would be good if Figma took on board some of the learnings from this
  • There is quite a steep learning curve for new users, so more in-product troubleshooting would be useful
  • Sometimes it's not as intuitive to use as I'd like
Figma is well suited to teams when they have some working knowledge of UX and UI design. It's most suited to UI designers and some UX designers - and can be shared easily with product managers, developers and other relevant stakeholders. It's not great for beginners or people who are not very tech-savvy.

We use figma to define design requirements. Our Product Designers use Figma to showcase their ideal state of how they want the screens in our product to look like.
We also use Figma to do collaborative design related discussions on how we want the Product to look. This is really useful for us, as we can see how the designers have defined the vision vis-a-vis the look and feel of the product. The ability to add comments and tag folks in a Figma board is really helpful as it helps us track and get a comment audit trail.
  • Allows Designers to create awesome look and feel for the product.
  • Love the ability to add comments and get a audit trail of the same.
  • I like the fact that Figma has not only a web-view but also a standalone application for MacOS
  • Scrolling is a bit finicky
  • The web-version is sometimes slow and the SSO login takes time to go through
  • The prototyping can be hard to use as it is not intuitive which buttons to click to move head
Figma is well suited when you want to define how the look and feel of a product/website should be like. It is also useful when we want to build basic prototypes of how a software product is supposed to look like,
It is less appropriate when we want to build a detailed prototype of the software.

I review designs and leave comments while collaborating on designs infrequently.
our business focuses on designing net new software features using dogma, while also managing old designs and updating old designs. We use it as a bridge between the business and the technical folks.
  • Collaboration is excellent
  • User experience of figma is outstanding
  • Tools and capabilities
  • Perhaps figjam could be improved
Figma is excellent for collaboration. The comment options offer a lot of flexibility. Navigating the app or web version is very intuitive and makes learning the software comfortable and easy.

We rely on Figma extensively for our design processes in my organization. Our use case spans the entire design lifecycle: Brainstorming and wireframing, creating high-fidelity mockups, prototyping to visualize and test our designs, design handoff to implement our products and design system maintenance to keep our files and assets consistent across different the design teams within the organization.
  • Figma allows our team to collaborate seamlessly on design projects. We can work simultaneously on the same file, leave comments, and iterate efficiently. This real-time collaboration streamlines our workflows.
  • Figma’s prototyping features enable us to create interactive prototypes directly within the design tool. We can validate our designs with user testing, ensuring a user-centric approach.
  • Figma helps us maintain a consistent design language across our products. We create reusable components, design tokens, and shared libraries. This ensures brand consistency and accelerates our design process.
  • Figma’s version history allows us to track changes, revert to previous versions, etc. This is crucial for our large-scale projects and collaboration across the team.
  • Figma bridges the gap between our design team, developers, and other stakeholders. We share design specs, export assets, and communicate design decisions effectively thanks to it.
  • Advanced prototyping features for high-fidelity mockups
  • Some improvement is necessary to be able to use Figma as the primary vector tool to create illustrations.
  • A visual diff tool could be handy to show visual differences between versions to aid in reviewing changes.
Figma is the industry standard at the moment in the UX design community. It is a great design tool for brainstorming, ideation, and creating wireframes and simple prototypes to choose make reasonable design decisions. Thanks to official and 3rd party plug-ins, it almost covers all needs of a UX/UI designer. However, it lacks some features to create high-fidelity prototypes to reflect the end design. So, one might need another tool for such a need.

The first time I used Figma was in my current job. The whole company uses it; the designers make the designs in this program and send them to the programmers. In this way, the task is easier for us since the program has UX tools for mobile, then we no longer have to fight with them to make the designs using the mobile guides. That is used throughout the company by both mobile and web developers.
  • UX/UI guideline tools.
  • Show the application flow.
  • Allows developers and designers to work on the same file.
  • High learning curve.
  • Easier way to export to mobile.
  • Convert design in mobile code could be better.
Figma is very good to work with designers and programmers together. It allows the end-user to see how the flow will be and to understand it better. It has many options to export icons and XML code for developers but this is also one of the weaknesses. It can improve in that aspect. The generated code is not very good and the learning curve is high.

Figma is used in our Marketing department that services the entire University. As we design collateral and assets for all University initiatives we can utilize Figma as a central means of designing and wireframing digital campaign assets and prototypes for landing pages and other projects. It also simplifies working with external vendors that develop and assist with our digital efforts.
  • Cloud software with auto-save and no lag
  • Components!
  • Always adding features and integrations
  • Slight learning curve if coming from an Adobe workflow
  • Training resources are not as plentiful as Sketch and XD (Figma site is constantly improving though)
  • Not as easy to round trip like you can in Adobe products
Figma's online collaboration is unmatched. If you are working with a large team or especially a remote one this is a game changer. Also, Figma works on just about any platform as a desktop app in addition to designing in the browser so it's not tied to Mac like Sketch.

Our web development company uses Figma as our main design tool for collaborating and sharing designs across our team. It combines the intuitive functionality of other design programs like Sketch, InVision, and Photoshop with the powerful addition of cloud-based file storing and sharing. It also makes handoff from design to development a breeze.
  • Website Design Mockups
  • File Sharing and Collaboration
  • Interactive Prototyping
  • I honestly haven't come across anything about it yet that I don't like.
For designers familiar with Adobe applications, Sketch, and InVision, getting up to speed with Figma is a breeze. It's perfect for design teams of all sizes and solves the problem of file-sharing/collaboration and it makes the process of commenting and feedback much more efficient. It allows designers to create, store, share, and socialize designs all within one powerful app.

Figma was used in order to build both mocks and finalized designs for our website. It was primarily used by the design team, the product management team and engineers. Our designers built our entire design system, company brand book and mockup styles using Figma. It was extremely easy to set up team permissions and share these designs with Product Stakeholders, Engineers and the Management team in order to walk them through the user experience we visualized for new products prior to implementation and release.
  • Access permissions are easy to set up.
  • Shareability of designs across teams.
  • Simplicity of use.
  • It's quite a heavy application so make sure your device has the resources needed to support it if you're using it for long hours.
  • It would be great if people without a design background could have a simpler walkthrough on getting started and trying out designs on the application.
  • Zooming in and out of designs is always a frustrating experience when trying to present them during a meeting. Perhaps some attention to this feature could reduce friction and the need to use a touch screen to zoom.
It's great if you have an accomplished designer on your team who can pick up the basics easily and has used other design or mockup tools in the past. It can prove to have a steep learning curve for more novice design enthusiasts who would need to be able to invest more time and effort in getting more up to speed with the tool.

Figma is easy as pie to pick up. There's almost zero learning curve; you can start designing without any design skills. Everyone can hop into the same file at the same time. As a marketer, I use a Figma to design some materials for our blog. Also, it´s easy to use triggers and actions to create the experience the designer wants to have. Our design team loves this tool and have said that it's a powerful tool for UI/UX and other design work.
  • Figma lets you control the time transition between screens.
  • It works on Windows or Mac, and in-browser. It has awesome features for quick access
  • Real-time collaboration.
  • Also, It has a very simple UI and UX interface, so you can easily find what you want
  • There are no Invision plugins.
Well, Figma is a very intuitive tool, making it a perfect match for a new team of designers or for marketers like me. It works really well with LP and small materials like logo, screenshots, preview images and more. Sometimes I have so many layers I don't know where to look, and the item is hidden on the screen and I have to manually check every group and layer for the same. So, in this case, it is hard to manage all things when you just want to check something in layers.

We use Figma across our organization, but it is mainly used by our team of designers. The design team inputs their designs into Figma, and we use that file to share with other internal teams (such as developers) and to present designs to external clients. The most important problem that it has solved (and one of the main reasons we're using it) is that we wanted a streamlined app that would allow us to hand off all design assets to our developers.
  • Figma is a great app for sharing designs amongst team resources. Our designers are able to use it to make edits to each other's work.
  • Figma is an adequate hub for housing design assets so that our developers have everything they need to build a site.
  • The sharing settings are very satisfactory, and I can give different permissions (like view, edit, etc.) to people based on their role in the project.
  • It's not extremely user-friendly. There is definitely a learning curve for Figma that may not exist for similar apps.
  • I think the user experience for a viewer should be different from that of an editor. Obviously, a viewer wouldn't have the ability to edit, but it'd be nice to be able to click on a page in the sidebar and be immediately taken to that design without having to use the prototype function.
  • The prototype function is not as user-friendly and streamlined as other prototype apps I've used.
It's a great way to easily share designs amongst team resources. Our team used to have to share PSDs via a dropbox folder, but now they have everything they need in one place and they can easily share it with whoever needs access. I think if a team is looking at the app for the prototype function there are better options, but it is nice that you have a prototype function if you need it in addition to the other features Figma offers.
